Did this ever really go away? I feel like it just became yet another specific aesthetic that you could always go and buy clothes for if you wanted, and people who dressed like this never necessarily looked out of style, just like “oh yeah she dresses more boho”… but I’m 30 and never dressed like this even when it was huge so what do I know

As someone who's been dressing like that for over a decade now, I can definitely confirm. I can't even count the times where I looked like a hobo and at least would person would act like I was fashionable and had an ~interesting style. Not brushing my hair is basically part of my personality at this point.

I think it got ridiculous when you walked into Forever 21 in 2017 and all the "real clothes" had been replaced by festival stuff or shirts with tacos/cactuses on them.

Tumblr 2014 gives me hope because Forever 21 had some amazing grunge pieces in 2013-2014 and I still have some lol.

I have a shitload of clothing like that bc I constantly raid my mom's closet. I wouldn't say it's my actual style tho, it's literally just shit I wear bc I'm too lazy (or too poor) to get anything else. I'm a massive pothead too so it's quite fitting.
