I'm not a big Wes Anderson fan so this is a genuine question: Is this the first time he's had more than one POC in a movie at a time?

Is Grand Budapest good?

i think it's one of his best tbh. Tony Revolori brings a real humanity to his character and the story, and Ralph Fiennes gives a surprisingly passionate performance. the final scene of the two of them together is right up there with the "I've had a rough year, Dad" moment from The Royal Tenenbaums on my "wow a Wes Anderson movie is making me cry" list.

Echoing what others have said, but I also noticed Bill Murray isn't in this and he's been in every single Wes Anderson movie (except his very first, Bottle Rocket). This pleases me and I hope it was deliberate

I feel like Tom Hanks is taking the role Bill Murray normally would have

Bill Murray was attached to the film, but the story is that he got COVID before the shoot and he had to step away from it. it was only a three months of principal photography, so any delay would've caused them to go overbudget/schedule issues for the other actors.

Well that's disappointing

Even though he's had more than one, I feel that the perspective is always way too mayo. It's always through the lens of a white person's point of view. Isle of Dogs was really egregious, and The Darjeeling Limited had a lot of orientalist tropes.

I've only seen Royal Tenenbaums and the camp/boy scout one with Ed Norton. Wes Anderson's movies never felt relatable to me in the same way that i'm not a big Scorsese fan either. Like you said, they're so rooted in the white male experience, i find them hard to get through.

There were two POC on the crew for Life Aquatic, and Darjeeling Limited had more than the average for his movies but that was more because of its locale than anything else.

I've never seen Life Aquatic because i despise Bill Murray. Was Darjeeling Limited worth the watch?

I don't remember tbh. I haven't seen it since it came out and I never really watched another one of his movies, but I don't know if that's because I didn't like it or if I'd grown out of my twee phase by the time the next one came out. I still listen to the soundtrack and score, though, because like all of his movies the music is great.

They fact people gotta tell you one or two should give you a good enough idea about the casts of his movies.
