Thanks for sharing this, and get this, I AM a MH professional. haha That's why we can't self-diagnose, either. haha I knew for sure I had anxiety, complex trauma (family dynamics/relational trauma), and depression. I needed psychiatry because my "high-functioning (outdated term)" anxiety and depression were no more. The thing is that my mom (narcissistic parent) would diagnose me and tell me I'm "bipolar" or "borderline." I have thought about possible hypomania because of the lite impulsivity with spending. I would buy what I wanted and not have it impact me, but saving up can do wonders, too. The high libido and the insomnia or all-nighters made me think there were some manic stuff there. I just needed to seek professional help and not guess ( ... )

Congrats on the diagnosis! I was recently diagnosed as well and started taking Vyvanse in January - I found it worked really well but after about 3 weeks I started having a rapid heart rate at all times of the day (even at rest) & spent the day in the hospital, so I'm now trying something else. I hope it works for you though, and no ill side effects :)

Thanks, love! I'm sorry the Vyvanse didn't help, but I'm glad you found something else that worked. I tried Wellbutrin before, and that made me break out in hives by week 3, and sadly, it's quite common. I tried Adderall, and that helped, but sadly the shortage is still happening. I took a GeneSight test to help me figure out what would work for me, and sadly, I'm allergic or have adverse reactions to so many anti-depressants and stimulants, so those similar to Adderall like Vyvanse and the other old-school drug I can't remember are the only options for me. Again, so sorry that it affected your heart, but I'm glad you're taken care of! :)

The GeneSight test sounds very interesting, I never thought that our genetics could impact how effective or ineffective psychiatric drugs could be for us! Ill have to bring it up to my Dr. when I see her in a few weeks, cause that could explain a lot of things - thank you for mentioning it! It sucks that there's so much trial and error with these medications, it's all so exhausting but if you haven't experienced side effects w/ the Vyvanse by now it's probably a good sign & most likely that'll be the one for you :)

Yeah, my psychiatrist ordered it for me, and I have to pay for it. I think insurance covers some parts of it. It's cool, and she explained how our bodies absorb or react to certain drugs differently than others ( ... )

this is NOT intended to replace or whatever your medical needs at all, but as someone who has been a member of the Literally Always Tired club for as long as i can remember, to the extent that i was still regularly passing out in the afternoons while on extended release adderall for ADHD even when i’d slept okay the night before - eating in a way that i think has helped some blood sugar issues i must have has been revolutionary for me (in my case, avoiding carb heavy items at breakfast and eating about 1g protein per lb of bodyweight - nothing crazy like going full keto or whatever - every body’s different!). sorry in advance if you’ve tried this kind of stuff and it hasn’t worked but i’ve been struggling my whole life with daily fatigue that was again only partly ameliorated by medical grade all day stimulants and i know how fucking frustrating it is to feel like you have to fight your body to get it to do anything so… just throwing it out there! also throwing out there that while i’m currently taking a possibly permanent break from ( ... )

No offense taken, and I appreciate your comment. I took a Vyvanse this morning and feel tired. I am drinking some green tea. I also stayed up till 2 am, so that's on me. I'm still getting used to my Vyvanse (for ADHD) and Viibryd (SSRI for anxiety and depression) for almost a month now. That anti-depressant is sedating, and I had to wean of the desvenlafaxine (Pristiq) because it gave me itchiness. I'm now taking my SSRI at night. I previously took Adderall, but I discontinued because of the shortage here ( ... )

Before I was officially diagnosed and started ADHD medication, a friend of mine also suggested a no/low carb breakfast b/c of the potential increase for mental fatigue/sluggy-ness, and it really worked! It's not always easy to do b/c carb-y breakfasts are so quick and easy to eat (while the ADHD makes it's hard to eat the alt. protein focused foods because sometimes you're just unmotivated to chew oatmeal or yogurt + granola), but when I can do it the day goes by much smoother.

my latest thing is slow cooker turkey chili! unconventional for breakfast but i can make a batch to last a week, clean up is minimal (important for me lol), and then in the mornings i just glop some into a bowl, heat it in the microwave, top with some greek yogurt, and go! also people hate on protein shakes but like… they’re food, even though they’re found in the supplements aisle. lol.

I'm not even gonna lie, but who would have thought ONTD would help me have some closure, especially at a Pedro Pascal thread of all places haha

I just had my therapy appointment today to process this since I got my confirmed diagnosis this past Thursday by my psychiatrist. I'm almost 30, and just reading everyone's comments here, I'm like, "OH! SO THIS IS A THING? IT'S NOT JUST ME?" It makes sense since caffeine, coke, and most ADHD meds are stimulants, they're uppers. We've been self-medicating this whole time! It's like when people with anxiety smoke weed or drink alcohol because they are both downers, they are depressants. I hope you're okay and have the help you deserve, too.

Not to keep following you around this post (LOL) but ONTD & Twitter have been surprisingly positive influences and support systems navigating my ADHD journey and I think a lot people can say the same and I'm happy that you have found acceptance and closure on yours!

yep, i will start therapy because of twitter/ontd users' experiences, that are so similar to mine, lol! i dont want to auto-diagnose but yeah everything you wrote is too freaking similar to my experiences.

i read women who have ADHD were very calm and focused as children, idk if that's correct for most cases but if you saw me as a kid you never guessed the struggle i have now. I've been drinking coffee since i was like 10 and did absolutely nothing to me but i was the kid that hyper-focused on one thing obsessively, was a great listener and could watch HOURS and HOURS of movies and shows and read 2000 pages in one sit. Since I finished college though? Every year it gets worst and worst.

I think it's worth getting tested for a psychological assessment, too. It can test for ADHD. For autism, it may be more based on self-report questionnaires, since the assessments for early diagnosis are usually for children. It can also include an IQ test like the WAIS-IV for adults. It wouldn't hurt to rule out ADHD and/or ASD. My hunch is if you were a high achieving student, there may be a chance there is giftedness, too. They are called "twice exceptional" for having a neurodevelopmental disorder and testing for giftedness. If you did exceptionally well at school and at work, there may be perfectionism, procrastination, boredom, fear of failure, and only a fixation on things you really like. Gifted folks perform poorly on things that they don't find meaningful or enjoyable, so they underperform. For girls, culturally, they tend to internalize more than externalize like boys because of gender norms by society. You might have learned to compensate ( ... )

Sorry for odd English btw: Yeah I grew up listening the adults in my life saying how smart I was because my vocabulary was like an adult, because I loved to read a lot, etc.

Now if I don't have discipline and structure I fail hard.

There are a lot of things you mentioned that are the way I've been doing things since forever and I always feel guilty for not turning into the successful adult I was suppose to become, plus I don't know if there's a line between ADHD vs laziness because I'M SO LAZY... For example, my room, it's clean but a mess because I need to do the annual deep cleaning, throwing thins away, so there are boxes and clothes everywhere... for almos 6 months. And I need to paint the walls too, I have everything ready yet ask me when I'm going to start...

Even thinking about it I feel like losing energy LMAO
