I think she was 17 while filming that as well, because in the audio commentary for Love Actually they talk about how she was gonna shoot PotC next and they all thought it was gonna be a ridiculous pirate movie

I can totally understand this for her. The first thing I ever saw her in was Bend It Like Beckham. I was obsessed with that movie and loved that it was centered on girls my age loving football/soccer (tbh was shocked to find Parminder Nagra was 10yrs older!).

And then literally the next year in Love, Actually she’s married to and entertaining the bullshit from two men clearly at LEAST 10 years older than her. As an 18yo, I was like.. tf is happening here?

From then on she was almost always paired with men that were older. Yeah, she’s an actress and a pretty good one at that. But, that doesn’t mean that the attention didn’t mess with her young brain. Older men lusting over you when you’re barely 18.. gross.

People really don’t realize how young she actually was in most of her iconic romantic performances.

Yeah I really felt for her. And then she continuously got hate for all sorts, esp her looks, teeth or being plain and bad at acting. All of which are false btw as she's incredibly charming on screen.

She was pretty young compared to the men she had to act alongside in that movie right? Think about this, in 2004, Emmy Rossum was 18 when Phantom came out and Gerard Butler and Patrick Wilson were 35 and 31.

So in Pirates in 2003, Keira was only 18 too. Orlando was 26 and the wifebeater was 40, hell Davenport was 30.

WHY do they do that? I know it's still happening but damn the early 2000s were something else. Of course this must be so jarring for young actresses.

Double standards. Men can age like a rotten cheese and still get booked but women need to be as young as possible when they break out to guarantee „longevity“ because who wants to see / cast a 40 year old women in 10 years!
