It was complete tonal shift to straight drama…I still thought it was really good but I did miss the more goofy elements. Even the more silly stuff like beignets shop gag felt heavy. It deserves awards because the acting and directing is phenomenal but seeing it the comedy category with like Abbot Elementary was just like…no way lmao

yeah i thought this show was pitched as a very dark comedy but last season was just dark drama

Mte, and the dramatic aspect makes it less real somehow? It's weird. Like how do you fit noho hank into that? I thought the show was going to be kind of surreal and metaphorical and playing with the absurdity of Hollywood in the way s1 did brilliantly, but then it didnt want to focus on what i wanted to focus on at all. I dont care about Barry's actual criminal fate nor mr Cs feelings lol.

Damn, final seasons used to be a huge deal and promoted all over the place. Now you have three popular (or at least very critically popular) shows all announcing they're ending like it's just another day.

it’s crazy to me that HBO is sending barry and succession, their two biggest critical darlings, out at the same time. like that’s two extra months of me subscribing to HBO max they could have had!

Emmy deadlines, they all needed to get in under the wire since they got rid of the hanging episode rule. also Barry is amazing but def needs a strong lead in. a much better choice to attach it to Succession than wait around for The Idol to premiere in the summer and hope that people won’t forget about it by September 2024 when it comes time for those Emmys.

ohhhhh that makes sense. although damn now i’m stressed about barry and succession fighting for emmys in their final season! or wait is barry still getting nominated as a comedy despite closing last year with the bleakest episode of television i’ve seen in my life??

yep it's a comedy. it's the half hour bias like even The Bear is being run as a comedy and it's way less funny than Barry
