My 15th sober birthday is in 2 days. I loved my 2 drink self. She was funny, outgoing, beautiful and the version of myself I wished I always was.
I still miss alcohol as a social lubricant. I still miss 2 drink __onthebound.
Like Lucy I never stopped at 2. If 2 felt good than 4 would feel even better. I spent all my time chasing the 2 drink feeling by pouring more alcohol onto it. I pretty much stopped drinking and there's so many non alcoholic beers etc out there now so I can still socialise and have fun and not feel like crap the next day. Also I'm from a Muslim background so I don't feel like I had the same pressures as others did.
Also good for her for this. I hope she gets everything good in lifex
Oh I hope there will be good ones, please share if you find any! like I said above I enjoy the taste of alcohol a lot but I don't get drunk easily so that's not really part of the appeal to me. If there were good tasting non-alc wines and beer I'd love that haha my dad likes the bavaria non alc beer, if anyone's in the market for that! it's a bit on the sweet side, so if you like non bitter beer, check it out :)
One of the reasons alcohol is such a slippery slope is that it’s not just accepted but expected and encouraged. It’s really ridiculous. I’ve actually had people get mad at me for NOT drinking, which never made sense to me since I’m not asking everyone else to stop drinking.
I hate pushy drinkers. Especially when people try to make you feel obligated to do shots. No! I’ve never liked straight liquor and at my big age you’re not peer pressuring me! It’s not my fault you bought it assuming I’d take it.
Lord, I've had that happen too and it was so jarring in the moment. Was like a switch flipped. They got really short and snippy with me, really visibly pissed off, basically acting like it was a debate and they just needed to out-logic me. While I was like what the fuck did I do, what the hell is it to you if I don't drink?
In hindsight I think that person had the kind of socially acceptable dependency that people don't think of as being a problem (though it is), so they were probably needing me to validate their choice to drink.
