I think having gender neutral categories will be interesting. I haven't made up my mind about them yet.

i've seen many arguments for and against this. i'm fairly against this because look at some of the neutral non-actor categories, like best director. it's almost always a sausage fest because that's just how hollywood rolls, and if we made the acting ones neutral it would look more of the same of that

sure there may be some women nominees but how often would they win? men will always support men and find a way to put a woman down

Yeah, like for these awards in particular, the nominees are chosen by committee so they can take care to make sure there are sufficient numbers of women. But I don't think that's the case for most shows. I don't know what the solution is, but I don't think this is it.

i just can't think of a solution where everyone's content, and then what happens to all the winners in the past? you know future winners will complain that past winners had a better chance of winning etc.

i saw someone bring up the grammys because those are neutral, which i get i guess. there are also a thousand grammy categories so there are just flat-out more chances of an artist winning a grammy over an oscar, so that's kinda moot too

because of course i didn't actually read the first sentence of the post i went scrimmaging to find ifc on my cable and was like why are there movies showing all day????

having tv here is weird but hey why not. i'm most thrown off this isn't the day before the oscars like it always has been, i misss having a weekend of just crazy awards back to back
