It's literally been the highlight of my week lets GOOOOO. Support women directors!!!
Also so weird that looking up the credits, Lord & Miller produced this ... I truly wonder what happened BTS of Solo for Alden to be cool working with them after Disney fucked them over.

All Quiet on the Western Front: This was pretty good, though I liked it less than 1917 and I thought the end was dumb. I didn’t think it explored much new ground, tbh - we get it, war is hell! - and it felt a little underdeveloped from a character perspective, but it was interesting to see it from the German soldier POV and it looked amazing. I’ve never read the book so idk how it stacked up there. The one guy (Kropp?) looked like Andrew Garfield’s twin.
Blonde: Tried to go in with an open mind, but hot take, this was fucking terrible!!! I don’t even have any specific Marilyn Monroe opinions, but good god - the mostly fictionalized sexual encounters, the completely unmotivated switches between black and white and color, the terrible dialogue, the patchwork story structure, the talking aborted fetus, it was all just awful. So much crying! So many scenes lasted much longer than they needed to, and I still don’t know why. Ana was good, tbh, but the movie was so, so bad ( ... )

And yes, the ending was super dumb and basically the exact opposite of how the character's end went in the book, since I guess they didn't think PTSD and soldiers feeling like they could never really return to civilian life wasn't considered a cool enough theme to include.
I would highly recommend reading the book if looking for a classic, it will do a better job re: showing the German POV if you find that intriguing.

this weekend i want to finally get to women talking. cocaine bear is on my list as well, because i love the americans reunion of it all, and i'm rooting for it to do well at the box office even though i don't have time to catch it this weekend (especially since it would be funny if it challenged quantumania, as unlikely as that is).

I’d like to go see Titanic this weekend but I’ve been saying that for two weeks.
