She was clearly just playing a more extra version of herself, that's why she was so convincing in the role

But do you look at Guernica and say that is one of the greatest works of art ever?

No.

I had to look it up and… it’s ok? It looks better in colour.

He obviously had technical skill, but the painting doesn’t really make me feel anything. A lot of people really do consider it one of the greatest paintings of all time, and I guess I just don’t ~get it~.

Speaking from experience some paintings don't *click* until you see them in person and see the brush strokes, technique, etc. up close and personal. I used to think "Ugh....her?" about Starry Night by Van Gogh, and then I saw it in person and was amazed. Did you know that a part of the moon in the picture is like half an inch thick? You see everything when you see in person, and in some cases you can see and understand the intent that the painting was made. A photograph does not compare.

Of course, you might still not like it after seeing it, and that's fine. Different strokes for different folks.

Cancel culture is not the same as refusing to profit of working with pedos or rapists
It's really not hard to say no to something once you are multimillionaire

Right? Money/fame must make it impossible to just keep your mouth shut

This is the most annoying thing about these rich assholes. You have so much money, so much opportunity, and you choose to work for/with horrible human beings. Meanwhile, people with only a fraction of your wealth can stand up to their jerk of a boss.

"If you don’t read older books that are slightly offensive because of what they say in a historical context, then you will never grapple with the minds of the time [and] we are destined to repeat that stuff."

Sounds about white.

I can't get over her saying this? The absolute privilege of it all to feel like you need literature and film to be reminded or understand, in the smallest of ways, what oppressed communities have gone through. Maybe try having a fucking dialogue, Cate. You don't need to open a book - there are centuries of generational pain and trauma that you can learn firsthand from without having to take a movie role or whatever the fuck it is you're talking about.
