I was so confused cause like what did they think is on the rest of the American continents. They said “we’re next door to Europe and Africa” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and I was like “you going to Paris or Casablanca is no different from me going to Toronto or São Paulo”

Me: *overweight, overheating in mild 80F, so pale was once called “White Tights” in high school because the boy calling for my attention thought I was wearing them (but it was my actual skin)*
British person I met learning I’m from California: “Do you surf?”

Them (understanding sarcasm far faster than logic): “no need to be rude!”

The amount of Baywatch-centric questions travelers were asking in the early 2000s was a bit puzzling until I later learned how popular Baywatch was internationally.
(But still puzzling because I don’t give off any beach bunny vibes.)

lol I remember being in France circa 2001 and my host family would watch Alerte à Malibu.

This was totally from 2000 or 2001.
The French title makes more sense than Baywatch because… not really a bay. The worldwide love boggles my mind but maybe the effect of translation improves upon the inanity of it?

Because my anecdote about British stupidity tipped off that I am not black?
Bagging on British stupidity is a conversation for everyone in the community.

Asking if I had that particular hobby was dim-witted. Policing an anecdote (where establishing skin color is relevant, which is rare, but is the crux of what made the question so dim-witted) in tangent, sub-thread on a post about Idris Elba’s thoughts on his own identity, on a celebrity gossip forum where users mostly make jokes… is also silly.
My anecdote is not intended to make anyone on ONTD feel badly about themselves - is that how it reads to you?
