Yeah, I get this particular prosecutor being a problem, but it's also plain to see that the Baldwin team is trying to delay the process as much as possible.

Here’s hoping that if they successfully get this prosecutor tossed, she’ll be replaced by an absolute fucking beast who wipes the floor with the defense and Baldwin’s team can’t do anything but fume about it.

If nothing else I’m picturing this rn and it makes me feel a little better lol

yeah I feel like this could be a "careful what you ask for" situation. he has less argument on appeal if he can't whine that a Republican politician was just out to get him because he's been politically vocal for Democrats.

which, good? he was part of the team that was negligent as hell

the comments below are pointing out how shady this is (I know next to nothing about law, let alone American law) so if she's replaced by someone competent who does things by the book and can destroy the defense while giving them no wiggle room to cry foul, all the better tbh

*edit lol one of the commenters is you, didn't even realise

Of course he is. Alec Baldwin's always been an asshole. He showed us who he is and people should've believed him the first time. His behavior throughout all of this has been revolting. This man clearly feels no guilt, wants to take no responsibility for what happened and wants to make this whole thing go away by any means necessary. And ¡Hillary mejor quédate en su lugar!

I feel so sad for Halyna Hutchins' family and that they have to go through such an immeasurable tragedy. I can't even begin to imagine how they feel when they see this pos act like a fool when an innocent life was lost while he's the one who pulled the trigger.

The prosecutor going straight to Fox News to talk about the case was pretty weird but I hope this doesn't hurt the case.

I mean, Alec Baldwin is fucking garbage but I kind of see the merits of this argument? A legislator who is a political creature should not be a prosecutor on a high-profile case, it feels like it would be too easy to use what should be a very sober, serious case as political grandstanding

Wasn’t the prosecutor grandstanding on Fox News too? Alec is a POS but he still deserves a fair trial just like anyone else.

It’s a bit crazy to have someone who influences the creation of laws also enforcing them. Does this happen often?

I’m wondering this as well, I haven’t heard of it before either in the US or in my country but there’s bound to be lots of Republican officials who’d absolutely love to go after a high-profile Democrat (and vice versa). But now that I think about it, aren’t sheriffs elected in the US and likewise eager to score political points by targeting certain types of perpetrators/certain types of crime? The whole system is a mess.

Well yes. Police unions do a lot of lobbying.

No, while prosecutors are definitely biased towards the state, they generally don’t campaign for office in the legislature by going on Fox News to talk about a case they’re going to prosecute, and then keep prosecuting the case once elected. Also, Article III of New Mexico’s constitution forbids it:

The powers of the government of this state are divided into three distinct departments, the legislative, executive and judicial, and no person or collection of persons charged with the exercise of powers properly belonging to one of these departments, shall exercise any powers properly belonging to either of the others

If she cared about justice more than her ego, she would have stepped down after being elected and let someone else pursue the case. I’m sure she’s not the only republican lawyer in the state. She needs to decide whether her political dreams are better served by serving in the state legislature or crowing on Newsmax about getting Alec Baldwin sent to prison.
