I feel like I'm pretty classic/conservative when it comes to my taste in art but I've accepted my basicness. If I could own a Turner I think I'd die happy. I saw some of his paintings in person and I was completely mesmerized... the way he uses light is incredible. Fishermen at Sea is my favourite, I think.

Nothing wrong with the classics! Turner is a legend for a reason. He, Caravaggio, and Rembrandt are basically the pillars of light usage in painting.

My faves are pretty classic as well: John Millais, Lucien Freud, Mary Beale. My favorite painting however is by Paul Delaroche - The Execution of Lady Jane Grey.

I'm not sure what I'd collect tbh--I adore Calder and would die to have one of his mobiles but that's about it of the top of mind!

Jane Fonda is how I hope I'll age (some mix of her and Bernie)

Great post OP!

Omg I got in trouble because of My Birth when i was in high school. I had the Hayden Herrera biography and I had it opened to that page and the teacher gave me detention for "inappropriate content" when.....it was a fucking library book?! Lol

my dream art splurge would be something from john register. something about the sense of isolation and emptiness, it's like i can hear the echo of footsteps in the empty rooms.

i have a lot of artwork, but it's stuff by smaller artists (by virtue of my budget lol) who sell their work on sites like etsy and inprnt. i'm really into the whole pool room vibe so naoco is a favorite. also into abstract/geometric stuff from jacob hess.

found this one article on register and i think it encapsulates why i'm more drawn to him compared to edward hopper (even tho i like nighthawks):

Born 1939 in New York, John Register painted sunny, deserted streets, empty cafés and hotel rooms in New York and Southern California. These themes, as well as his style, recall another great name in American Realism: Edward Hopper (1882-1967). Without denying this heritage, Register said: "With Hopper, you witness someone else's isolation; in my paintings, I think you, the viewer, become the isolated one."

I would consider myself the luckiest person in the world if I could own William-Adolphe Bouguereau's Dante e Virgílio no inferno. I just love religious paintings (Christian and Greek/Roman mythology) even though I'm the furthest thing from it.

That painting has layers! Something you can really pick apart. Nice choice.
