Pretty sure he sold off the rights for it at the height of its popularity, and now they have the movie coming out. Idk if he COULDN'T finish it, or just opted to let the movie do it for him lol.

We really need more artists' unions that encourage a liveable minimum commission structure, so even beginner artists don't get taken advantage of (AI art sucks and no one can really replace them). CGI artists especially, with everything coming out about Marvel's treatment of them.

A big issue is how freelance and contract work is handled (which is the majority of art jobs) and how those types of jobs can easily skirt regular labor laws.

It is also an issue of unions in a global working world. My friends who are in the animation union have to live and work in California and after covid especially they keep having talks of how to expand since people want to leave Cali.

There just need to be major changes for sure, artists have little to no protection.

It's definitely not an easy solve, I just wish there were more worker protections all around. We really need to decouple a lot of things (like healthcare and unemployment) from employers so people can safely contract and freelance and demand appropriate compensation.

Yeah, my sister and BIL are still working mostly remote after being entirely remote at the start of the pandemic. They'd leave CA for some place cheaper if they could still work remotely. But they're both union animators.

And my sister knows so many people in non-union jobs that are overworked or have been hospitalized after having breakdowns...

This has been a issue in the last few years, we've had some posts on it.

Hell no they need to stop being cheap and sneaky and offer up proper payment!
