Tbh I love both movies and the book as well lol but I really like unreliable narrators and/or perpetrators in fiction that try to mentally absolve themselves of their crimes. The subject matter is obviously not pretty and I am always confused by people who think it's centered around romance? Like did we absorb the same content here or what?

I love unreliable narrators too and it worked really well in Lolita. Not sure how people read the 'foreword' from the 'psychologist' and thought the book was centered around romance.

Could not agree more about Wolf Of Wall Street. I remember a friend berating me because I said I didn’t like it because of the misogyny and that this kind of story has been told to death anyway. She flipped out like I was crazy because it was a true story. I’m like so what? It’s still a story we’ve heard a thousand times and it’s been done better.

Yeah compared to something like Casino, WoWS was so lacking. I guess Casino has a more satisfying ending that WoWS wouldn't be able to have, so felt like it was glorifying it too much

It's not about what the movie is, but WHY they like it. I think maybe it's not ONE movie that is the red flag, but like maybe a range of movies that make you go, "hmmmm.... there is a theme..."

I don't know. As you get older, you realize that sometimes taste is not indicative of character. Moreso, you just don't vibe with them and you keep it moving. A "not for me" type of person lol.

IA there are movies where they are so bad and relatively niche they tell you a lot about a person. But I'd only be freaked out if a guy's movie taste was, like, mostly very misogynistic gory horror or something.
