The then-teenage stars of 1968's "Romeo and Juliet" claim they were told there'd be no nudity in the film, but in the final days of shooting, the director allegedly implored them to perform in the nude with body makeup, “or the Picture would fail.” https://t.co/dxRJcI4ccC

And to think my 9th grade teacher would only let us watch this version because she thought the 1996 one was the indecent one. WHO’S LAUGHING NOW?!

(In all seriousness this is awful, I hope they win and that they’re both OK)

echoing others upthread who said check out what your local library has available to check out, if you’re looking for physical copies to watch

def seconding no to the phone watching. as big as you can get the screen.

and yes id start from the beginning. killer's kiss and the killing are especially pretty neat films because they are just vastly different from everything else he'd do.

the only film of his i wouldnt bother is fear and desire, because it was his first and he hated it. ive seen it and totally get why lol.

Barry Lyndon is clever, wonderful, and beautiful, but it is SO LONG. idk, it just depends on what kind of movies you like I guess. 2001 is famed and very good and stylistically a good choice. a clockwork orange is pretty great though very graphic. the shining is one of the scariest and most beautifully filmed movies i've ever seen. full metal jacket is...they're just all very emotional movies tbh. vincent d'onofrio is fantastic in it. I didn't like apocalypse now but that had more to do with the plot. eyes wide shut is not that great tbh but it's visually worth watching. i've never seen lolita--I wanted to but then I guess the controversy kept me from seeing it...but I am glad I saw the rest of these movies and idk I guess controversy or not I would still watch them today.
also, just to get an idea of him as an artist, i'd watch kubrick by kubrick or stanley kubrick's boxes. they give you a better idea just how controlling and meticulous he was and how far he'd go to get the shot he wanted.

Doctor Strangelove works on any screen and is unlike a lot of Kubrick very entertaining.

I hate Barry Lyndon with an all consuming passion. I now have a visceral aversion to Handel's Sarabande because of Kubrick's steaming pile of poo.

Honestly I just want to see how badly the Favorite ripped it off. I've been told multiple times that it did. Lol

If you've seen both, would you make comparison?

Haven’t seen the Favourite … not a fan of Olivia Colman. And wasn’t aware of the comparisons. Googled same and found … ‘Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Favourite” - a beautiful love letter to Barry Lyndon’

So definitely one to avoid. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm probabably just repeating everyone else but I would say if you want "fully formed" Kubrick start at Strangelove and go chronologically from there, and if you enjoy those go back and pick up the rest ( ... )
