Rita Ora. She had a few big hits in the UK in the early 2010s (RIP was my uni jam tbf) and somehow has managed to stay in the public eye and maintain a lucrative career. When someone posted her house here the other day I was gobsmacked that she had that kind of money.

Selena Gomez’s singing career. I’m always surprised at how much people love her music, it’s super boring, she can’t sing and has zero stage presence. I legit thought she would have only one album or even song.

-----------------------------------------

Lil nas x too. I thought he would just be a flash in the pan meme but he's been able to maintain a pretty decent fanbase through awesome music videos and relatable memes on Twitter. Good for him

-----------------------------------------

Dua lipa. I really thought her career was over bc of that terrible dance she did lol. Then she turns it around like a year later and releases one of the best received pop albums of the last 5 years. Good for her

-----------------------------------------

Keanu Reeves is a beautiful block of wood. He can't act but he's genuinely a great guy

-----------------------------------------

Blake Lively and weirdly Blackpink. They rarely drop content or music (at least in the past year or so) yet are more famous than ever

-----------------------------------------

I would say Drake but that is my personal opinion. He seems to have some weird stuff going on with the 'talking to underage girls' which I would think would be a career killer but I don't feel like the media hasn't sunk its claws into it. Also I really don't understand his music, like at all and I never hear it on the radio but somehow his songs are some of the top hits according to the Top 100.

-----------------------------------------

I never would've believed it from Lady Marmalade 20 years ago that 20 years on out of A+ list pop girl Christina Aguilera and top tier rappers Lil Kim & Missy Elliott, and Pink, it would be Pink that would have the longest and most consistent career.

-----------------------------------------

I mean I have to second Chris Brown lol. Like that man has not released a hit in how many years nor a “big” album since the payola fronting him as the perfect father, and yet people still care about him because he’s supposedly a good performer? Even at that, his dance moves were always basic. I can’t possibly understand why someone would even use the “separate the art from the artist” on him when there is nothing to consider art. I’d also say Johnny Depp but, as we all know, he’s a flop!

-----------------------------------------

In a positive sense, SteveO's.

-----------------------------------------

Snoop Dogg. I love him, but he hasn't made a hit record in nearly two decades. He would've been a hip hop icon even if he had retired and faded into being rich and obscure, but he has really held a surprisingly lime light (in part due to his friendship with Martha Stewart). But he still books a lot of shows, podcasts, and campaigns. I love it for him. But I am surprised by it, especially compared to his peers.

-----------------------------------------

Justin Timberlake. He releases an album every 10 years. Each with 1-2 mediocre songs that are still somehow getting played on repeat at grocery stores and high school dances. He shows up in the tabloids once every few years because of some collaboration with Pharrell or because he got caught cheating on his wife. No real charm or charisma. I don’t get his appeal.

computers and technology, slow news day, rita ora
