She’s not wrong. The strong female lead is the film version of not like the other girls.

Wait till she discovers “strong black woman” irl.

She’s right tho, women in films go through hell while men just have an up and coming story or they’re determined motivational figures (not counting slave movies and shit because you know the film industry won’t pass the chance for black trauma porn). I’ll support her because she gave use Emily Charleston and whatever the fuck her name was in Girl on the Train that highlighted us casual alcoholics in gaslighting abusive relationships.

I think that’s why I kinda liked The Luckiest Girl Alive. She’s strong on the outside but struggle and comes to terms on her own despite everyone around her telling her to move on and not letting it define her. She gets strength in the end from herself even if it’s years later.

Luckiest Girl Alive is also semi based on the author's life. One of the traumatic events that the main character goes through happened to the author at the same age.

I loved the book, Ani is so unapologetically bitchy and snobby, it’s fun to read from her perspective

she gave such an ICONIQUE performance in girl on the train, that scene where she's yelling in the bathroom is genuinely so compelling and moving. and the rest of the movie is a complete mess lol.

She's not wrong. It's littered with tropes that scream out pandering and 'just filling a gap' so the piece of media this character is in can be held up as 'progressive' when it rarely is.

Just give me a character that feels 'real' and not a tickbox of stereotypes.
