Everything I've read about this movie indicates that they took the real story of Saint-Georges, threw it out the window. They took away his actual achievements and agency in favor of replacing it with a very specific narrative that simply didn't exist in his actual life.
A glaring example is featured in the trailer. In the trailer, we see Marie Antoinette "gifting" Bologne with the title of chevalier in front of the court, in the mid-1770s.
In real life? Bologne earned the title of the Chevalier himself, after he was admitted to and graduated from (on his own merits) a royal academy for royal guards. He did this in 1766, when Marie Antoinette wasn't even in France yet, and was still 11 year old ( ... )
