It predates my first time to NYC as a teen in the Preppy Killer era, but I can definitely say the Leather Daddy scenes are pretty accurate. They got that whole gritty late 70s early 80s NYC down.
I just dig old New York City so much! Like 80s New York ugh I wish I could've visited or lived there back then. It just seemed alive in away it isn't now. But unfortunately my parents didn't have me early enough and tbh I will never forgive them. I would have THRIVED as a 20something is 80s NYC.
I think you would enjoy the Basquiat as a teen documentary on Hulu because they interview a lot of arts/music/writing people from the early 80s who talk about what NYC was like back then, plus there's a lot of documentary footage.
I will check it out! I watch a YouTube channel(forgot the name something Avenue or like that)and it shows NYC during like the club kid era so around late 70s and the 80s. It's so cool.
Club kid era is actually 90s but still a great era to do a deep dive in, Michael Alig's fuckery and all. I remember going to a popular NY club in the late 90s and seeing this tiny Jersey City girl (complete with accent) beat the shit out of this girl who jumped the line, lol. I also remember dancing so hard I fell out on the floor and the bouncers picked me up, said "Okay, we think you're done" and politely held me up as they walked me outside and hailed a cab for me to go back to the hotel, lol.
Late 70s to mid 80s was actually a special time because you had hip-hop. graffiti artists, New Wave, punk rock, rap, and the Art world were all co-mingling and getting inspiration from each other; a lot of cross-pollination went on and exchange of energy and ideas. Unfortunately that could never happen today because people are obsessed with everyone staying in their lane and accusing people of appropriation when there's no reason to do so.
how is the overall quality this season? writing etc? ryan always manages to put his tacky stamp all over it so i'm really hoping he's taken a back seat this time.
So far it’s a relatively focused story and not too many convoluted side plots, which I am enjoying. It also feels weirdly more tasteful in its violence?
What’s with all the gay serial killer stories lately? I feel like it’s just gonna give people ideas 😬 it’s uncomfortable enough to take a metro in Berlin at night
