I tried to read it right after finishing Less Than Zero, and quickly decided I'd had enough of Bret Easton Ellis for the time being thank you

Yeah, I tried reading it at some point but the passages are too much for me. I think the movie understands the material properly as satire but it’s much more digestible and frankly better than the book.

Yes!! Its one of the few times the movie was way better than the book imo.

American Psycho is one of the worst books I've ever read. Truthfully, I've never liked Bale for taking that role. The only thing in the book that you can't get in the 4 minutes of 'Material Girl' by Madonna is the extreme violence against women, which is really why it's been so enduringly popular. Every time I see someone say that it's a critique of consumer culture and misogyny, I have to take a deep breath because an avowed misogynist like Bret Easton Ellis who laughingly talks about how sex workers can't be raped is just not capable of it.

I'm gonna try to read some Batman though. I got a bunch of hardcover Batman books from Dollarama for 3 or 4 bucks so I may as well read them.
