You absolutely love to see it! I know he'll try to slime his way out of it via bankruptcy or moving his money around or whatever, but I can't imagine he'll be able to do that forever.

People more in the know than me have said bankruptcy won't protect him from this.

And even if he tries to hide the money this means lawyers are going to be up his ass for the rest of his life trying to recover the money.

Bankruptcy can protect you from paying court fines and the like, but absolutely not restitution and fines resulting from a criminal sentencing. He can remain absolutely fucked.

i can't even imagine how much additional pain and trauma he's caused these families. very relieved he is being made to pay in some way.

i don't know if anyone has been keeping up with the parkland trial, but the closing statements were yesterday and the jury are deliberating from today (life w/o parole or the death penalty). i've watched the trial since it started and i still can't fully wrap my head around what these parents, teachers, and kids went through, it's truly horrific and makes me sick to my stomach. i've cried so much watching it and watching the families of the victims support each other. it's heartbreaking but the love and support they show to each other is so amazing considering what they're going through.

i feel the same. i am very anti capital punishment/death penalty in any capacity but with this trial...i just can't make myself care about him or his rights. if he gets the death penalty i truly cannot bring myself to see it as a miscarriage of justice or a barbaric punishment. i don't know how to word this properly and i don't wanna cause drama but i just feel so exhausted and sad for the families and i don't think he can be reformed either.

I think of it this way: I do not care if people like him live or die. The world is almost certainly better without him in it.

But a nation killing its own citizens is only corrupting its own soul, no matter what the reason is. The state can't enact vengeance because it isn't a person, it's a concept, so in trying to exchange a life for a life it only creates more victims - in the family of the executed, in the people who have to carry out the execution, in the people who witness it. It hardens the hearts of the people involved by necessity.

I don't need to care about the worst men in the world to believe that a nation shouldn't have to sacrifice its soul to see justice done.
