I haven't watched the show (read the book though) and I'm so confused how there are 5 seasons when the book was effectively covered by season 1, iirc.

Yeah S1 ends where the book ends, and it's basically gone fully off the rails since then. I liked the early seasons but each new season is increasingly absurd.

She put out a second book, spoiler alert, [Spoiler (click to open)]it isn't that good. I haven't watched since the first season, it just seemed like torture porn and went much further than the books ever did so I wasn't interested in watching any further.

idk why you got downvoted for this but yeah, everything after S1 is weird

the whole show is weird, honestly, Handmaid's Tale isn't even close to being Atwood's best book. At least we got that Alias Grace adaptation but I'd love for someone to take on The Blind Assassin

Really hating June this season, so one note and surrounded by enablers.

I wish the focus wasn't on her anymore. I know they're obsessed with Moss but the story would've really benefited from shifting the narrative focus to a different character

This episode was a lot more tolerable than the first two, probably because Moss didn't direct so we didn't have constant June face close-ups and slow, slow shots.

The Gilead stuff is interesting. Again I'm struck by Naomi Putnam this season. I feel like they are setting her up for something later on, particularly with what she was saying in this episode to Janine in the hospital. I can't imagine season 1 or 2 Mrs. Putnam telling Janine (even sleeping/unresponsive Janine) "You won't be forgotten," etc.

The stuff with Serena and Lawrence was SO gross in this episode. Loved to see her taken down & shocked by being sent out of Gilead, but honestly seems like a much safer option for her, even though she doesn't seem to realize it yet.

the Serena/Lawrence stuff felt like something out of a bad fanfic

Lawrence being disgusted by Serena's advances was the highlight of the last episode for me. She pulled out all the stops (touch my belly, my babby needs a strong daddy, omg did you call a meeting for me?) and he was like wow, no. He's a scene stealer imo

I lost it when he rejected her, Bradley Whitford is great in this series.

this season is fucking ridiculous so far but the show jumped the shark long ago so I'm just enjoying the mess at this point

nothing makes any sense (no one caring June killed Fred in No Man's Land lol, Serena has way too much freedom and her prisoner status is ?!?!??!) plus the last minute addition of OH BY THE WAY THERE'S A REAL MAY DAY NETWORK AND IT'S GOING GREAT LOL was soooo cheesy

but like Pretty Little Liars I need to see this through to the end and the cast is great so there's that

Most if the world is actively rooting for putin or trump's death. Why do you think people would care in this fictional world?

I didn't think they'd care care, but I thought maybe they would use it to leverage something against the Canadian government or use June in negotiations or vice versa. I think the idea that they're all at war gets weirdly forgotten at times.

The real Mayday thing was such a bummer, because I thought that was a really intriguing, sad thing from the original novel, where you don't know if it's actually real or not. Like... having June and Moira set up their own assistance network and calling it Mayday after the rumors would have been less cheesy, and even that idea is still a terrible one.

I thought Serena was going to be a handmaid and was so let down.

This, I want her to suffer for what she put so many women through, but not like this. More in a "well you are a horrible person who should and will wither away in prison while you won't see that child of yours grow up"
