ONTD Original: Terrible movies with great soundtracks

Sep 17, 2022 10:57

Sometimes, as the title implies, an awful movie ends up with a confusingly good soundtrack. Maybe the director/producer had connections. Perhaps it was a big-budget movie that had the ca$h to blow on the rights to use the music, but the movie itself was butchered in post. Or they used black magic. Who knows ( Read more... )

You're right about all these, don't let anyone bring you down! (And I say this as someone who likes Watchmen lol.)

I guess it doesn't count, because it's the score, not actual songs. But the King Arthur Charlie Hunnam movie. Also when I was a kid and obsessed with the first Narnia movie, it didn't click for me that all the Inspired By songs were by Christian singers until I got older. Which... pans out lmao.

I love the score to the Russell Crowe version of Robin Hood, which was also objectively a total piece of garbage.

Historical movies usually have really good scores.

Whew, y'all are young. I can think of some meh to awful movies from the 90s with absolutely banging soundtracks (which I still have some CDs of)

The Crow (dont come for me I love this movie but it is real bad in spots)

Reality Bites

Batman Forever

Toys

The Fifth Element ( I also love this one but it is so cheesy... as if a horny 14 year old wrote it as a homage to another French comic. Ohg wait)

Empire Records

... I could really keep going but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Empire records the soundtrack wasn't as good as all the songs in the movie iirc? Didn't it have Coyote Shivers' version of Sugar High and not Renee's? It is a dim memory of an opinion from 20yr ago

Yes, the official soundtrack was the Coyote version. It was also the more sexually explicit version which 13 year me was not expecting.

I was going to say the soundtrack sucked as a whole, but when I Googled it did had some great songs but I feel like it missed the mark though. The songs that made the movie where missing and I spent a very long time trying to track them down in the days of Napster.

I considered Batman Forever but decided against it mostly because I'm a basic bitch who only really liked Kiss From A Rose 😂

I fully admit that I was OBSESSED with the Daredevil (2003) soundtrack. Releasing that movie when I was 15 and therefore extremely prone to fart-rock edgelordery was a personal attack!!

Respectfully, how could you ever forget such deep and soulful lyrics such as

WAKE ME UP

I CAN'T WAKE UP

Hey, that song still speaks to me!
As far as I'm concerned it's about coffee (I'm an insomniac)

I thought there was a couple of good songs on the Godzilla 1998 soundtrack, but it might have just been Rage Against the Machine that I was thinking of lol.

Oh man, I used to be obsessed with Underworld and the soundtrack lol.

My pick would have to be the Wicker Park soundtrack. I used to watch that movie just for the music (especially the last scene where The Scientist plays).
