The author was so hellbent on being witty, wordy, and subversive that it didn't. Based on your other reactions here, I don't think I'd ever expect to see someone go this hard for a middle grade novel, but I appreciate the furor.

I've never heard of the book but this looks fun and low stakes and I'm into it.

I always check who has young children. People underestimate how much actors want to be able to show their children what they do, especially if their kids are too young to see the sorts of movies and shows their parents usually make.

Charlize has a 10 year old daughter and a 7 year old daughter, and almost every movie she's in is not appropriate for kids.

I just always remember Tony Goldwyn saying he took the role of voicing Tarzan in the movie because his kids didn't really believe he was a successful actor because they were never allowed to see any of them since he usually played the bad guy.

the concept is super cute but the books are honestly terribly written. I would just watch this instead tbh
