So his dad wasn’t abusive and he lied, but Shia is abusive and he admitted it and then denied it. Almost like he’s a compulsive liar who loves attention.

The main character in the present-day storyline in the movie is in court-ordered rehab, and I think he wrote it in rehab, but I doubt he was like...mandated to write it as part of the rehab or anything.

that was my thought too, people go back and forth with dealing with abuse because you kind of want to gaslight yourself, its a lot more pleasant than reality. but then shia truly is so full of shit about everything he might have really lied about some things, either way theres plenty of evidence his dad was a terrible person.

I don't trust what he's saying now and I don't want to guess about if he's lying on purpose to manipulate or lying because he's reframing his childhood to himself or lying because he's a compulsive liar who just says shit for no reason.
