ONTD investigates: Dr. Simi in concerts, a new Mexican tradition
Due to a recent post of Gaga being bopped by a Dr. Simi in Toronto, this post was made for gringos confused posters to shed a light on this part of festivals and concert culture and folklore in Mexico.
Farmacias Similares is a Mexican drugstore chain dedicated to the sale of generic medications at a way lower price than brand drugs, Farmacias Similares has more than 6,000 branches in Mexico and the rest of Latin America. The mascot of the chain is Dr. Simi, and it has merchandise with its image, with the most ubiquitous one being the plushie in its likeness.
During the 2021 edition of the Corona Capital music festival in Mexico City, a fan threw a Dr. Simi plushie during the set of Norwegian artist Aurora, to gift her a kitschy Mexican souvenir, and a new tradition in musical events was born.

Dr. Simi has been present in concerts from local to international artists, ranging from all musical genres, whenever an artist plays in Mexico or there is a Mexican attendee at foreign events, chances are a Dr. Simi will be present. Gorillaz, My Chemical Romance, The Killers, Ed Maverick, Harry Styles, Slipknot, Beach Fossils, SuA, Karol G and most recently, Rosalía, have been some of the showered with these plushies.
It is also worth noting that these plushies are made by CINIA, a project that employs people with different sensorial, intellectual or motor abilities, utilizing recycled PET for the stuffing, with all proceedings of the plushies going directly to them.
