ONTD Original: Actors with Running Themes in Their Roles

Aug 15, 2022 19:43

I didn't pick people who consciously decide what to pick(ex. The Rock - Playing himself or in a clear subversion of how he acts), but people who have a bit of a pattern in their work.

Is it intentional? Probably! Is it fun to see patterns? Yes!

not dragging you OP but it's so funny to me that the median age of the people you're discussing in the context of running themes in their long careers is like 25

Who else has a running theme throughout their work? There are people I wanted to include but I just wasn't familiar enough with their filmography.

Taylor Kitsch - the running theme of flops

Happy to assist! A few other Timothée roles that fit your premise:

Miss Stevens: He plays a drama student who is exceptionally talented within the world of the story. He even has a monologue:

The King: He plays a youthful, lackadaisical prince who becomes King when his father dies, and has to figure that shit out quick.

I guess you could say he does some innovating in the drug dealing space in Hot Summer Nights, but that's a bit of a stretch.

I haven't seen any of the films/show in question, but I know that Andrew Garfield seems to be picking a lot of roles where he plays a religious person. Under the Banner of Heaven, the Eyes of Tammy Faye, Hacksaw Ridge, Silence.

For sure! And then Angels in America on Broadway on top of all those roles.

I agree! Andrew deals a lot with Fanaticism and playing/being absorbed by a zealot. Primarily playing them. He seems to really love not only stories of power but of obsession. A lot of that is in religion, but even in the beginning (is TSN not talking about the power hungry zealot Z*ck is?) of his career even through his smaller stuff (Mainstream) also deals with fanaticism of a different kind.

Sorry for the 'in this essay I will' energy y'all lol

Even tick tick… Boom is about zealous adherence to a belief system.

I always associate Peter Sarsgaard with playing the creep in most of his roles. Not even the main villain, just always a guy going through a midlife crisis who makes poor decisions based upon his libido.
