idk even know where to start… like first of all, the author saying the characters might not even be japanese could have been an opportunity to cast more people of colour (like more from the little they already have in the film), but NO the (white) screenwriter thinks “transcend[ing] race” = white x 100

second of all i agree with inoue. i am so sick of seeing films set in “foreign” countries (especially asia) but the lead(s) are white. why on earth are the yts always inserting themselves where they’re not needed/wanted GO AWAY

It's disturbing how in Hollywood (excluding Star Trek) consistently sees the future without Asians, especially when everyone is still quick to marvel at how technologically advance Japan has been since WW2; ignore how China is currently the leading country in green technology, while India has become the go-to for outsourced tech support for all major tech companies, and Korean is taking over the global music industry. A year before the pandemic hit, I remember reading an article about how there are plans to make Vietnam the Silicon Valley of Asia; a lot of rice fields were bought out and they were planning to build futuristic looking skyscrapers with huge gardens around it.
