The Brand Is Breaking Up?!!
Over the past few weeks Reddit users have noticed alleged discord between the Bodega Boys, Desus Nice and the Kid Mero.
It all started in late 2021 when the podcast, The Bodega Boys, went on hiatus. Initially, wasn’t cause for concern since the podcast had already switched over to a once a month format by then. But as the months rolled by and no new art dropped, the Bodega Hive got worried.
When the Showtime series, Desus and Mero came back for the fourth season it wasn’t lost on viewers that the show switched over to a once a week format (instead of three times a week). A new show runner was also brought in. As of now, no word on a fifth season has been announced leaving viewers to wonder if the changes meant Showtime wasn’t happy with the direction of the show.
Meanwhile, fans noticed Desus’ behavior on social media. At first, some of his tweets started to grow a bit out of touch. Then he stopped tweeting out “avoid the bookings beloved” every Friday. All the while Desus has been jetsetting with friends Anna Kendrick and Dylan O’Brien. Mero for the most part has been at home, streaming on Twitch.
Talks of conflict started after Mero mentioned on Reddit a few months back that there was a holdup on the podcast and wanted to know if fans would be interested in a podcast with him and Victor Lopez, the Bodega Boys’ manager.
He later officially said during an IG that the pod was over, while making comments that painted Showtime CEO David Nevins in an unfavorable light, leading fans to believe that the late night show was cancelled.
Desus, tired of the slander he’d been getting on social media for selling out, tweeted out that the pod wasn’t over and that it was coming back soon.

Fans temporarily got their hopes up until Mero commented on TikTok that Desus was high and in his bag when he tweeted that and the pod wasn’t coming back.

Desus then responded to a Twitter post compiling some Reddit post about the pod being over, stating his disappointment that fans had to find out the way they did and that they hadn’t heard the full story.

All while this “drama” is unfolding the late night show has been airing. Most fans haven’t noticed any tension between Desus and Mero on the show while some have commented that Desus seems shorter than usual with Mero and cuts him off more.
It was recently announced that Desus would be a guest host for Kimmel Summer where Jimmy Kimmel takes the summer off and brings in guest hosts or some shit. Desus is booked to host without Mero, the biggest solo project either have done so far.
Because of this, Mero’s wanting to do the podcast but somehow being unable to, and Desus’s social media change up (more clean cut, jokes hitting different, seen hanging out with celebs), fans have speculated that if there’s a problem it lay with Desus’s Hollywood ambitions. Of course, it could also be coworkers growing apart. We’ll see what the future brings.
