I’m really over biopics in general unless the subjects are living and involved in the process

I'm actually not a fan of this route because the biopics usually turn into fluff pieces for the main subject, lol.

Elton was a big part of why Rocketman was so open about his sexuality and drug use! The reason this took so long to get made (it was first being discussed in the early 2000s with TIMBERLAKE suggested as the star *gag*) was because studios kept trying to tone stuff down so they could get that all important PG-13 rating. And Elton said "My life isn't PG-13 so why should this film be" (or something like that). Literally it took that long to find a studio who'd be comfortable with even THAT amount of gay sex (and drugs but lbr it's the gay sex they were all nervous about).

Her?? She already gave John Lennon an unnecessary Oedipus complex in Nowhere Boy, we don't need an Amy biopic that's probably going to be centered around daddy issues

idk about "gave". John Lennon's mommy issues were by his own admittance a defying personality trait.

He definitely had a complicated relationship with his mom, but I don't think it was to the specific extent the movie suggested, at least from what I can remember atm. Maybe I'm projecting, but I got the impression those scenes with John & Julia also subtly reflected how Aaron & Sam felt about each other during filming, but it's been a while since I've watched the movie

From what I remember watching the movie I think they were trying to convey how much of a right there but unobtainable figure Julia was in his life. In context of Sam's relationship with Aaron (which I don't remember if I knew at the time) it is very uncomfortable, totally agree. But in real life Lennon called his second wife "mother" and some of his songs (Julia, My Mummy's Dead, Mother, etc). Mommy issues and parental was his brand. That's why I think you're right that Amy's issues with her father are probably going to factor in this script, and I wonder if that's part of the appeal for Sam Taylor-Johnson and/or the screenwriter.

Crazy that's been 10 years since her death!!

I remember going to this place I was volunteering at and my co-volunteer said "Oh did you here Amy Winehouse died" and my first reaction was "it finally happened :O!". Which is sad cause it was such a ticking time-bob for it to happen because it was predictable.

I was 23 when she passed, so when I turned 27 it was crazy to fully realize how very young she was when she passed away. Obvs she accomplished much by that time but so much more life was not lived!

I wonder who they'll get to play her? any fancasts up?

Idk about fancasts but i vividly remember Millie Bobby Brown saying Amy was her dream role or something.

I may or may not have been high when I learned that info but I know I heard about that somewhere.
