I can't (or rather I can) believe they tried low-balling NEVE MF CAMPBELL.

My suspicion is they probably felt the extent of her role didn't justify the amount of money she wanted and she disagreed. She is or was the franchises main character and clearly a huge draw for longtime fans, but also she was barely in 5 and it wasn't really about her character anymore, so I could see arguments on both ends.

I agree with this. I could see them side-lining her character, not offering her the right amount of cash because of less screen time, and Neve being like, "BUT I AM SCREAM"...which is correct.

Nah; the salary should reflect the character's importance to whatever story they're telling, imo...

Whether that approach will be financially rewarding for the studio in the longterm, however, is another thing ...
