I think Viola studied Michelle’s facial expressions too hard and instead of subtlety trying to blend them into a nuanced portrayal of her own facial emotions she for whatever reason kept them at an 11 which keeps them in comedic parody territory. The fact that after watching dailies and stuff no other creative in charge pulled her aside and was like okay ma’am we gotta pull back lol I think maybe Viola knows they don’t look alike and wanted to try and resemble her as much as possible? Lol

Michelle as Betty though is honestly great. I’m sad it’s in this show cuz it’s a real stand out.

every clip i've seen of viola is so bad. regina king was right there! regina is a closer resemblance physically and i think would've captured michelle's energy.

I'm somewhat following this, and I think Michelle's performance is the best, followed by Gillian's. The Obama segments do not work on any level.
