As soon as I read "young and old" I thought of how he almost directed the IT movie with all those teens and kind of shuddered irl

The old drafts of the IT script were kind of confusing, but I remember reading one draft that was supposed to be the "Fukunaga"-draft and it had a really creepy scene where IT transformed into a naked woman and taunted Richie or something. There were a lot more sexual undertones in general. But I'm not sure that was actually his script, so... take that with a grain of salt.

See, I actually wouldn't have minded something like that if it had been in the book instead. I don't mind King's whole *gestures vaguely* coming of age horror vibes with sexual undertones thing, because it kinda works? (*) Like, if I had met a shapeshifting fear monster as a confused teen lesbian.. yeah I can see that. I wouldn't mind reading it in a book written with the entire purpose of being unsettling. I would enjoy it in a graphic novel adaptation or in some batshit mindfuck-y anime. I would NOT fucking want that in a live-action movie starring child actors.

IDK, as someone who really enjoys fucked up media I find myself getting very, very squeamish about live action sex scenes or anything involving teen actors because the industry is so fucked up and all sort of shit goes down on sets.

unfortunately he'll probably go dark for like a year and a half and then re-emerge with a project claiming to be a changed man, and experience no actual consequences to his life or career

He won't even need to pretend to be a "changed man" - no one will care that he had relationships with legal teens and women in their 20s. It's just not something people will care about.

Right? Like, I understand that the law has to draw a clear line somewhere and I agree that legally considering older teens as adults is better than the alternative but like... just because you won't go to prison for doing something doesn't make it morally right

he's the exact kind of creep that knows his actions are unethical but just strays on the line of legality so he can absolve himself from blame

i think what would have more career implications are the accusations of him using power differentials on set to prey on younger women. in my experience, people who get off on that kind of thing want to have unchecked power to do so and he's already someone who has a rep for being "difficult" so he wouldn't respond well to someone intervening
