May 17, 2022 10:53

OP is back with part two of May's sermon!

The end of May and the Judgement of Smuggar cometh nigh. I have done as much research as I can bear to and I probably still have some of this in the wrong order because there is a fucking lot. I know some of you have been following this trial and please don't feel shy about correcting me if I have ( Read more... )

op do you know any podcast or yt vids that talk about this? I happened to listen to a vid on Josh Duggar yesterday but I never really paid attention to them outside of ontd.

Jim Bob doesn't have a church right? (Or does he?) Where did the congregation go?

God Is Grey and Fundie Fridays has 1, 2, 3!

As far as I could find, the Duggars once again have no traditional church after the asshattery with the Cadwells. If I saw them sniffing around my congregation, I would be noping the fuck out of there, and any church who would have the gall to let them in a sanctuary. Just...NO.

AMEN re: everything in your disclaimer, OP. I (raised Christian but bowed out after I left home) think about that plank in the eye quote, and the one about rich men having a harder time getting into Heaven than a camel through the eye of a needle, ALL the time.

As Kurt Vonnegut said: “Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies - 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'”

Great post.

I just finished watching The Way Down on HBO about the the weight loss religious cult. So much craziness. The way they discipline children reminded me of Quiverfulls/the Duggars.

There are a LOT of the non-denominational doctrines that are super-authoritarian when it comes to discipline. My physical abuse stopped when I was 17 and bigger than my mom, who had taken to beating me with a broomstick for fairly minor transgressions (forgetting to mop the floor, tripping over my own feet, etc.). I grabbed the broom out of her hands and told her the next time she hit me I was going to hit her back. She is 5'3", I was 5'7" and about 120 at the time.

Good for you! I'm honestly jealous... I dreamed of being able to fight back/tell off my parents when they tried to beat me, but I never grew taller than 5'4 :( I still think about how my mother put her hands around my neck once and all I did was cry instead of slapping her... But according to them, physical "punishment" was totally okay, and really, suggested and approved by the bible. Ugh. Surprise surprise, today I have little to no relationship with my parents...

I have three friends who have and it is on my list of books to read this summer. I have heard it is it a wild trip in how even remotely common sense Christianity in this country is now weaponized.
