So many nominations for a musical glorifying a pedophile.

ugh at all these Music Man noms and the decision to have all the actresses from Six compete in Lead was so weird but one or two of them should’ve gotten a nom anyways. the lack of love for the Company revival is surprising too. but Rachel Dratch got nominated for a Tony!!! that’s so cool!

Company got like 9 nominations though?

I meant in the acting category, I expected them to get more than three nominees in. Katrina Lenk feels like the biggest snub here

Nothing will top Aaron Tveit being the only nominee for Best Leading Actor last year. I was watching the nominations live and lost it when the guy said “Aaron Tveit” followed by a pause and then said “Congratulations to the nominees” lmao

How did present his award live? All the YouTube clips already show him on stage accepting, but I missed them showing his intro. Did they just announce him and congratulate his win?

No they didn’t! The presenters explained the situation and how he had to get 60% “yes” votes from Tony voting people to win. Everyone was laughing but Aaron looked so nervous and then they opened the envelope and announced him as the winner. He said in an interview he had no idea at the time if he was going to win or lose lol poor guy

I loved how savage the nominators were last year by only nominating him.

Translation: sorry to Tina, Jagged Little Pill, and The Lightning Thief but you were not good enough to get nominated in this category despite the lack of competition.

ETA: I also loved that even though Aaron Tveit KNEW he was going to win, he still ended up crying during his acceptance speech.

my incredibly biased opinion is six for best new musical over a strange loop (but it should win best book). i've seen a lot this season but not enough to have hot takes on most of the other categories, but i am surprised to see so many noms for paradise square (although joaquina kalukango deserves to win) and am laughing at the lack of noms for macbeth and doubtfire. ik katrina lenk was controversial but to give sutton foster a nom and not her, that's rude

but nightwing30 is absolutely correct that the incredibly low nominating committee (and broadwayworld reported that over 50% of the nominators didn't see enough to nominate, incl 8 nominators dropping out in the last couple weeks, so there's essentially only 29 nominators making these decisions) definitely has an effect on these

And I guess Funny Girl bombed? Beanie is not that famous and not that talented at singing so I felt like they should’ve either gone with someone super mainstream famous or a no-name but who’s super talented.

Yeah, it's apparently not a strong musical to begin with, and the reviews absolutely eviscerated it.

I totally forgot that Funny Girl was eligible for this year's nominations. I just looked at the list again and saw that the show got one nomination (Jared Grimes) so I guess everyone hated it? I haven't seen it, but with so few musicals this season, I thought it would at least get nominated in one of the non-acting categories (costumes, lighting, etc).
