L'événement (happening) was a really good movie. Definitely not for those that can't stomach body horror or the realistic depictions of DIY solutions to unwanted pregnancies. I also loved that they showed 'promiscuity' and how it can affect our view of women that have to deal with unwanted pregnancies and the ineptitude of males in general when it comes to issues that overwhelmingly affect women but they also directly contribute to.

Looking forward to watching the Twin next!

I literally just read the memoir Happening is based on today and I'm gonna thinking about it for a long time. I had no idea it was getting adapted into a film. I'm happy to hear it's good as well.

It was excellent - though for sure I struggled with particular scenes of the DIY method. So well shot and realistic.

I'm always looking forward to these posts to get recs of films that interest me yet I'll spend months to finally watch <3 My poor film habits would be even poorer if it wasn't for you, OP, so thank you <3

I often come back to these posts to look for recs, I often just bookmark new entries since they often appear when I have to go to bed and don't want to lose them.

Saw Funny Games (2007). Is the original better, because as disturbing as it was it also left me feeling meh. I think it's because of Michael Pitt and Brady Corbet's involvement 🤷

I've only seen the original in full (we watched 15 mins of the remake and my husband begged me to turn it off), and it was a long time ago, but I remember feeling deeply fucking disturbed. From what I understand, the remake was a shot for shot copy of the original, but I could see the actors making a difference.

I understand your husband, because that's exactly what I did the first time I tried to watch the remake lol It took me years to come back to it 😩

Going to see Doctor Strange and the MOM tonight.

Just double-checked and one of my local AMC theaters is getting Happening! Don't get me wrong, I love indie theaters, but I also love when I can use A-List on indies. It's awful how timely the movie has become just over the past week.

A couple of other great abortion-related films from the last few years are Never Rarely Sometimes Always and Unpregnant, would recommend both.

Cannot watch to watch the Spring Awakening doc when we get a chance! I came late to the show, seeing it for the first time in LA when Deaf West did their revival a few years back. I absolutely loved that version, and have since listened to the OBCR a lot.
