The villainization of public school is so frustrating. Like yea, there are valid criticisms but I'm not really hearing those, these people just want to control everything.

They do a really good job of controlling the press around it, I wrote a paper on it in school and was shocked at how little is written about such a powerful lobbying group. Here’s a link if you’d like to read more, it’s fascinating.

At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist I think the Florida “groomer” law was purposely written to be so vague so public schools could be defunded via lawsuit pay outs. Conservatives know education equals fewer of them

I think this is 100% true and not an offbeat conspiracy. The way the law is written in FL will set a precedent and other states will soon follow. I'm fully convinced that they creat laws like this in a backwards manner, like they start with the goal of defending/dismantling the public school system, then choose a hot button cultural issue to tag onto it, and then write a bill from there. They don't care about crt or trans kids in bathrooms; they know crt and sex ed werent part of any kindergarden curriculum...but they know their base will eat this shit up and use it as a way to meet their actual end goal.

Thanks, I’ve come to realize that the right gets away with half of what they do because it sounds ludicrous to suggest that they’re doing what they are, like letting COVID rage in the beginning because it was going to hit blue states harder, that sounds like Lex Luther not something that actually happened. Who needs comic book villains when we have them

I met a homeschooled kid in beauty school…. My impression of her was that emotionally and socially she was very stunted and awkward. But intellectually very smart…but since she was taught through her grandparents, she was raised as a special snowflake, believing that she was smarter than everyone else, so she always sounded like a know-it-all, and nobody likes know-it-alls.

She was adopted by her grandparents cuz her Mormon parents couldn’t support a large family, and was soon pulled out of school in 3rd grade cuz her grandparents were hardcore Jehovah Witnesses. So putting that 2 and 2 together, her grandparents basically set this girl up for social failure.

Yes! So much this, I know it’s anecdotal but every homeschooled person I’ve encountered has been the same, smug and yet innately awkward, which is not a great combo. My sister is homeschooling her kids now and I’m hoping it doesn’t last long 🤦🏻‍♀️

yea it was interesting, in college I had a couple of home schooled kids in one of my classes. They were smart but really socially awkward, which I found weird because they knew each other through their home school program so clearly they socialized with other home schooled kids but it didn't make that much of a difference? I think they need to be socialized with kids who actually attend school tbh.

Yeah I agree…I feel homeschooled kids are just a different breed of awkward.

And the girl I met in beauty school, was definitely interesting…but her awkwardness and the ineptitude of not being able to connect with the clients who sat in her chair in a more personal and organic level, my assumptions of her struggling as a hair stylist was correct.

After graduating from beauty school, she assisted a master stylist for only 3 months, but got fired cuz of her “know-it-all” personality. Meaning she would argue with the master stylist over certain techniques, although the stylist she assisted had over 12 years of experience. She now is renting a chair, but struggling hard cuz her clientele base is not big enough to have a consistent business.

They don't want kids to be educated and think for themselves, cos it tends to turn them away from the family's more hateful values
