Will Smith/Chis Rock Aftermath: Twitter Madness

Following the Great Slap of 2022 A.D., celebrities have used various platform to share their condemning of Will Smith's act of brotherly love towards Chris Rock.

However, not to be messed about the Prince of Bel-Air supporters decided to strike back and remind celebrities that they should've sat and eaten their food instead of sharing their ( Read more... )

Why are we calling out women for something their partners did? Zoe is not responsible for Ezra being abusive, chances are she was abused herself?

And if Joshua Jackson cheated on Jodie, that's also not something to call out her for? And that stuff about the sorority, there's barely any information about this except for some tweets.

The Zoe thing was mostly the Alexander Wang stuff and inappropriate Jaden comments when it was trending; the rest of the stuff just got thrown into the kitchen sink.

It’s really messed up that people are trying to drag Zoe for dating Michael Fassbender, when he was probably manipulative and abusive towards her too.

I couldn't help reading the post and apparently, from what I've seen here these last few days, you can call out people for things that their partners did, but if somebody you like slaps somebody you don't like on stage, that's OK, and it's also funny. When Zverev hit the umpire's chair, everybody criticized him at once (including me), and rightfully so. But now some people feel sorry for Will Smith because this "overshadowed his moment when he won an Oscar". Feel sorry about Jada, who was the butt of that horrible, tasteless joke.

I'm sorry, but seeing violence was triggering for me, since I have a history of violence in my family. I never thought, when I visited ONTD after what happened, that most people would be laughing about it and defending Will Smith, since one of the things I like about this community is that they're very sensitive to things that can trigger negative feelings. I know I'll probably get thumbs down or some negative reply, but I had to say it.

I'm glad you said this. This site has been showing its WHOLE ass the last few days.

I especially hate the comments about not inserting yourself into the story if you were abused and triggered (because no one wants to hear your hot take) ... yet, this entire site exists to read commentary and share perspectives on items both frivolous and serious. All this to defend someone who couldn't control his anger and assaulted someone AT THE OSCARS ON LIVE TV. Completely absurd. Echo chambers don't only exist on Fox.

Thank you! There are a lot of posts when people share their personal stories based on sth that happened with a celebrity, and it's good to have an outlet if sth triggers you. But in this case, a lot of people only want memes and to laugh about it, dismissing violence as if it were not a serious issue.

Do you think that if somebody who was not a celebrity had done what Will Smith did, the academy would've let him stay and get his award, and that he would've gotten a standing ovation? I don't think so.

A lot of people showed their true colors in this situation. It seems that violence is OK as long as the person who does it is liked by them. And we're supposed to feel sorry for him because it overshadowed his Oscar moment, when he should've been out of the theater the minute after he did that.

Well said. It's a complex situation but a lot of the reactions on ONTD have been downright bizarre. Handling Will with kid gloves because he's ONTD's golden boy I guess? He's a 53 year old man ffs, and he's responsible for his own actions.

Exactly. I know he apologized one day later, but he didn't seem very embarrassed when he kept laughing during the ceremony and apparently was seen dancing at some party.
