Women's World #1 Ash Barty (25) surprisingly retired from tennis at age 25 while ranked No. 1. The announcement, made via her instagram account comes less than two months after winning the Australian Open for her third Grand Slam singles title.

was stunned by this! but good on her for going out on her terms. wild that the last point we'll ever see her play was the winner of the Australian Open.

this was so surprising when i saw the news! cuz she had withdrawn from Indian Wells and Miami to prep for the BJK Cup. and i thought oh, she prob doesnt really care about rank#1 or winning slams much and prob just wants to win for her country next. i thought she would retire early but not this early. not even attempting to try to get that US Open win? but well she does have slams for each surface tho.

Coco was the last person to win a set off her and her last defeat was at the USO against Shelby. and now rank#1 is up for grabs as the top 10 are so fuckin close in ranking points.

this does feel like such a Barty way to retire though. she met her tennis goals, secured enough money, and hated the tour life. tennis is such a lonely sport and mentally taxing.

I'm happy for her, as she gets to bow out the way she wanted. But I'll bloody miss her 😭 I wonder if she'll get back into golf or cricket.
