We watched a couple of Oscar nominees this week:

Raya and the Last Dragon: Maybe it's because my expectations were low, but I really liked this?? The animation was gorgeous, the pacing was good, and I liked most of the characters. It was a little too long, particularly in the third act, but overall, I enjoyed it.

Having now seen all of the animated noms, my personal fave remains Luca!

Ascension: I didn't know what to expect with this Documentary nom, but I almost immediately found myself thinking back to watching Koyaanisqatsi in film school. It's overwhelming and calming, intense and mellow... a real visual feast. I don't know that I ever need to watch it again, but it was really interesting!

Still have several more films to knock out before the Oscars - might go see one of the shorts compilations tonight.

I’ll be watching the Oscar Documentary Short Nominated films this weekend, as well as the couple International features I haven’t seen (Hand of God, Lunana)

I watched Coda, which is unfortunately the 2nd worst BP nom. Found the story extremely contrived, forced.
BP Noms Ranked:
1. Drive My Car
2. Dune
3. King Richard
4. Licorice Pizza
5. West Side Story
6. Power of the Dog
7. Nightmare Alley
8. Coda
9. Belfast

i saw belfast (boring and disjointed) and the batman (LOVED this and frankly didn’t feel as long as i thought), and i’m seeing parallel mothers this weekend, which i’m very curious about!
