As I recall, the idea of 'Stockholm Syndrome' is a real misrepresentation of what actually happened with that bank robbery. I forget the details, but I think it was the cops who messed up and made things worse (imagine that). And I like him, so sure.

yeah i heard that too! that the police called it stockholm syndrome but truly it was the victim distrusting the police SO BAD that she trusted the criminal more. i can’t rmb where i read it

I think it's fair to say that human beings tend to trauma bond for survival, even between captors and captives, and also that police generally mess shit up and try to cover it with psychology.

eta: I should say that I read a couple books regarding how it may or may not be useful in hostage situations in order to reduce the chance of hostage death, and all of them suggest that it only happens when the hostage believes the police are just as or more dangerous than the hostage-taker. That's part of it.
