I mean, if I’m dead then it doesn’t really matter. Even if it’s embarrassing stuff, I’m not gonna have to deal with the awkwardness lol.

Also, I’ve always worried about things sometimes like my friends who I don’t live close to, ones who also aren’t connected to those immediately around me… if I were to die suddenly, then how would they be contacted if people couldn’t access my contacts list etc.

Yeah, this. I'm a freelancer and I sometimes think about how if I suddenly died, many of my clients would probably just think I'm irresponsible/ghosting them or something. Right now it's just a silly anxiety, but as I age, I'll probably have to make some kind of list of who to contact when I die and update it regularly. Digital life is weird like this.

something similar happened to me last year - found out 3 months after the fact a friend i used to be really close with had cancer - i reached out to him letting him know i was thinking of him. about two months or so went by and when i thought of him again and went to go see if there were any updates on his gofundme, found he had died about a month after i had texted him.

Torn on this. If I could leave a list of people to inform, that would be okay

I wouldn't mind giving access to the stuff on my phone to somebody in my family (well, not everybody, but my brother, for example) or to my boyfriend, but that's very much a matter of personal preference, I definitely understand why people wouldn't.

I just did it and set up my best friend. I'd rather her be able to act as a filter to pass the info on to my family so my parents don't need to see anything they don't need to see. It's like cleaning out a friend's sex toy drawer when they die so their mom doesn't have to do it.
