I’m happy that the survivors will have a chance to tell their own story, but I also know that no one is obligated to share their trauma. I had to unfollow r/Duggarsnark during the J Duggar trial, but I got really uncomfortable by all the memes that were made that seemed to make light of the horrific situation, because they wanted snark content. At the end of the day, the man hurt real people and the CSAM he consumed contributed to the industry of that material, which featured real child victims.I hate the fundie doctrines as much as anyone else, but the community was getting off on speculating about which Duggar would respond or which Duggar would take Josh’s side and they would accuse those who didn’t make a public statement of taking his side. The mods also said that no one could make positive comments about any of them, lest it be seen as leg humping. This also applied to the literal children in the family. This is an incoherent rant, but I feel the subreddit went from being about critically engaging with and fighting back against

The subreddit has had a lot of great intell and input, especially with the AMA´s done with a couple of people who have been on the inside, but the constant demand for statements from the oldest daughters was bizarre to me. We gotta remember these women are victims of their cult and their own brother and they don´t owe the public their trauma

ita, it's transparent the way that some sisters are picked apart for not speaking publicly about their abusive brother being put in prison when absolutely none of them owe anyone a statement on that. plus if the brothers don't comment the sub decides they're definitely breaking free, but if the sisters don't it means that they're falling in line. there's a lot of sexism rampant in that sub now imo and it's unfortunate. plus, as you said, the celebratory reaction to the trial there was bleak.

I felt the exact same way about the memes. I’m glad he went to trial and was convicted but posting memes of his sisters (like they were) made me uncomfortable. They’re victims and maybe they were glad to see their brother brought to justice but the reason they were there was not a good one and probably brought up some deep emotional wounds.

im SO glad they are making this about the IBLP and not just the duggars. the IBLP is the real issue and needs to be exposed at this level
