He is fascinated by I Love Lucy and the issues it raises, such as whether actors can voice opinions.“ Lucille checked a box [backing communism] at a time when it wasn’t a big deal. Sixteen years later, the world changed and she’s hung for it. That reminds you of Twitter.”

Nicole Kidman is just playing the platonic ideal of what a Nicole Kidman Character is at this stage of her career. No one is outright bad in this except Alia Shawkat, but J.K. Simmons and Nina Arianda give the best performances in the movie. there’s a confusing af framing device that didn’t need to be there, the flashbacks to Lucy and Desi’s early relationship don’t work because Kidman and Bardem are kind of too old for the roles. I hate hate hate that Sorkin does the thing that ruined Studio 60 which is writing the comedic process like it’s something scientific or profound when it’s just comedy (and that’s why 30 Rock succeeded bc it understood IT WAS JUST COMEDY).
and the way Sorkin is constantly comparing this era of Hollywood blacklisting to being cancelled by Twitter! he’s ridiculous and also the movie is basically pro-HUAC or at the very least pro-J. Edgar Hoover, so his rants about Twitter witch hunts don’t even make fucking sense according to his own script!

I don't want to imply that comedy writing doesn't require some analytical ability, but the way this is portrayed in the film you'd be hard pressed to understand how any spontaneity or freshness ever ended up on screen.

Don’t get me started on Javier. I’m glad I did not pay for this.
