He is fascinated by I Love Lucy and the issues it raises, such as whether actors can voice opinions.“ Lucille checked a box [backing communism] at a time when it wasn’t a big deal. Sixteen years later, the world changed and she’s hung for it. That reminds you of Twitter.” pic.twitter.com/2xHUBLGISq

I feel like there is more than enough material with all of the BTS drama and just making waves in Hollywood for a 6 episode mini series covering each year of the show and demise of Lucy/Desi's relationship.

I know. I'm just talking about how they messed up.

I said earlier today that I clearly see the flaws but I still loved the movie. I just love Aaron Sorkin’s writing. Nicole gave an interesting and strong performance but she never really captured Lucille Ball. If she’d been a fictional comedienne it would have been perfect.

I feel like her Lucy Ricardo voice was....a choice. When she was "acting" in the show it just felt off.

I think she did okay as Lucille Ball. Her performances as Lucy Ricardo were weak, but the Lucille Ball interviews I’ve seen, she had a presence but was a lot more laid back than the character she played. Nicole captured that pretty well.

The Benjamin Button technology they were using on Nicole looked weird as hell. It was an interesting movie, but you know Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are thinking it's Oscar bait. Nah.

this movie made me so mad I had to write a longer comment lmao
[Spoiler (click to open)]
Nicole Kidman is just playing the platonic ideal of what a Nicole Kidman Character is at this stage of her career. No one is outright bad in this except Alia Shawkat, but J.K. Simmons and Nina Arianda give the best performances in the movie. there’s a confusing af framing device that didn’t need to be there, the flashbacks to Lucy and Desi’s early relationship don’t work because Kidman and Bardem are kind of too old for the roles. I hate hate hate that Sorkin does the thing that ruined Studio 60 which is writing the comedic process like it’s something scientific or profound when it’s just comedy (and that’s why 30 Rock succeeded bc it understood IT WAS JUST COMEDY).

and the way Sorkin is constantly comparing this era of Hollywood blacklisting to being cancelled by Twitter! he’s ridiculous and also the movie is basically pro-HUAC or at the very least pro-J. Edgar Hoover, so his rants about Twitter witch hunts don’t even make fucking sense according to his own script!

Your comment about Sorkin treating the comedic process as if it's scientific is similar to my thinking. There were so many moments in this where Lucy analyzes the comedy scenes to the point that the film's scenes lose any dramatic interest. In one particularly egregious example, I think he intercuts her imagining the comedic scenes with close-ups of her completely inexpressive, stone cold intense "thinking" face. It was completely ridiculous and, even worse, inert.

I don't want to imply that comedy writing doesn't require some analytical ability, but the way this is portrayed in the film you'd be hard pressed to understand how any spontaneity or freshness ever ended up on screen.

I did not like this movie. Kidman couldn’t emote any expression, whatever she did to her face, I just don’t know she wasn’t Lucy or right for the part.

Don’t get me started on Javier. I’m glad I did not pay for this.

This is my main issue. I think Nicole is talented. And all the fillers / Botox / etc. is her choice and none of my business BUT when playing someone from the FIFTIES - when that stuff did NOT exist … it just takes me OUT of it and I can’t quite buy into what I’m being sold.
