Wes Anderson and a few members of the cast and crew of The French Dispatch talk about Angoulême, the French town where the film was shot, and how its look inspired the fictional town of Ennui-sur-Blasé.
I'm mixed on Wes Anderson. I adore the Grand Budapest Hotel, think Rushmore is super interesting and enjoyed both The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Fantastic Mr. Fox. The rest of his films have left me cold or actively annoyed. Going into the French Dispatch with an open mind!
I loved The Grand Budapest Hotel, and the rest of his movies are good fun.
However as I said in the previous Box Office post I didn't like The French Dispatch. I saw it last Thursday on the opening evening here and it just sort of fell flat to me. There was no plot and although it was very well made I was sad to see it wasn't as colorful as his previous works. Which is very 'daring' of him but maybe not the best thing to apply to a movie that is basically three separate short stories.
But my parents really loved it, and they don't have shit taste.
