Wait they're making Project Hail Mary into a movie? And they picked him to be the main character?

[Spoiler (click to open)] IDT he's weaselly enough for it, but we'll see. That's what acting is. I loved the book.

I loved the book but just can’t imagine a movie of it because it’s so weird. It’s being directed by Lord and Miller so I’m assuming they’re going comedy with it? I just don’t know how they’re going to portray Rocky in any kind or realistic/not ridiculous way. I also don’t see Ryan as Grace so I’m just very unsure if the whole thing.

...oh I'm less interested by the day. I like L&M are great, but it was a really slow, science-heavy, contemplative book.

It was all announced before the book was even out. I feel like I’m going to have to view it as something completely different from the book.

This comment reminds me of the time I was working in a call center and a lady told me that she wanted to speak with someone who spoke "American".

I laughed, and said "do you mean English, ma'am?" And then asked for my supervisor. LOL.

I was working as a supervisor in a call center in El Paso TX and I had a agent get suped. It had gone through 3 people and got to me. The first thing she said was ‘I want someone whos Mexican wasn’t their first language’ I lol’d and was like I think you mean Spanish ma’am. At the end of the call she said like about being happy with being able to talk with someone who didn’t speak Mexican. I could help it and was like ‘well Spanish is my first language, I speak it mostly at home but that’s how it is for most of us Mexican American’. She was so pissed and just hung up.

I don’t even speak Spanish at home(I understand and can get by on Spanglish but that’s it) I was just pissed dude like my agents all spoke fluent Spanish and English. That’s fucking dope. Not a negative. And on top of all of that literally none of the agents and Sup she talked to had accents. They just had Spanish names.

Ugh, he's in Project Hail Mary? That movie requires someone who is fun and interesting and basically a complete wreck, not him.

Just because someone isn’t hungry for attention, that doesn’t mean they aren’t fun or interesting.

Have you watched any of this dudes interviews? He is super charming/charismatic, and hilarious. Plus he’s a fantastic actor. He can definitely pull it off IMO.

Ok Gosling stan. I don't find him fun or interesting as an actor. Even things like Crazy Stupid Love I just found him annoying and try hard. It's ok for people to have different opinions on actors.

I've always thought learning languages was fun (except German- German can go fuck itself).

I did 4 years of Spanish in high school and then a year of French and a year of German in college.

Now I'm learning Korean for funsies.

There's something really satisfying about that moment where a new concept clicks or some new vocab sticks in your brain and it feels like you've unlocked some new level of understanding.

(except German- German can go fuck itself).

I'm trying to learn a bit of German now mostly using duolingo, so I can eventually take actual classes, and it's almost hilarious how awful I am at it. I love how it sounds but my god I honestly can't see myself ever carrying a proper conversation in German.

I’ve heard before that if you’re fluent in English/English is your native language, German isn’t as hard to pick up as English is a Germanic language. Of course, who ever told me that could have been confused on what it means to be a Germanic language and I’ve never Googled the definition for myself.

German language always seemed intimidating to me. Kudos to you for taking it on!

I think it makes sense, I was using Duolingo in English for my German classes and when I switched to Portuguese (my native language) thinking it'd be easier, I got naturally more confused lol
