The Nobel Prize in chemistry has been awarded to Benjamin List and David W.C. MacMillan "for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis." What the heck is that? It's a tool for building molecules, and is considered more efficient and greener than other methods.
List is director of the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, and MacMillan is a professor at Princeton University. This is the second win this year for Princeton, although OP would like to note that MacMillan got his PhD at UC Irvine.
