I’m hoping next month is better because my Jamaican pick (Witches Steeped in Gold) was disappointing. Especially since I’m half Jamaican and I wanted a tale of black witches.
I always had Ghachar Ghochar on my list because it was recommended from a booktuber a while back so I’ll probably try that. Or Heroines: Powerful Indian Women of Myth and History (Ira Mukhoty). I’m hoping they’re available on Libby or hoopla because my TBR cart is full and I’m on a book buying ban.
I think I’ll be good for a while because I found the out of print ones I’ve been searching for. There’s some I still want to finish in a series I’m in the middle of but I know I wouldn’t even start them right away but idk why I get that “but I need it on my cart now” feeling. It’s not going out of print lol.
(I’m not counting the book subscription service I’m in tho…🧍🏾♀️Just one a month…)
I love love love "Sister of My Heart" by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. Highly recommend if you enjoy a story that centers on a close bond between two women. Very lyrical and emotional and heartbreaking. I didn't enjoy the sequel quite as much, but I was glad to learn the story continued, since the first book ended on a slight cliffhanger.
Did anyone else have to read "The God of Small Things" by Arundhati Roy in high school and get their minds blown by [Spoiler (click to open)]the twincest, lol? This was before GoT and stuff for me
Good picks OP! I want to read all the nonfiction books listed - I've had Inglorious Empire on my TBR since it was published a few years ago so this might be the push I need to actually read it. Also Hangwoman sounds very interesting.
I read The Far Field a few years back and I HATED it, the main character was insufferable and that is part of the point but she never had enough growth for me as the story progressed. The cover is pretty though.
If anyone does want to read Salman Rushdie for this challenge, I highly recommend Haroun and the Sea of Stories. It is a delightful story and a lot easier to dive into than some of his other works.
oooh these titles are so interesting! I'm saving this post, but I think I'm gonna get Inglorious Empire to start with, and go from there.
Has anyone read The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi? I got it as a gift a while ago but haven't dived in. The reviews online aren't great but I was wondering if anyone here had a differing opinion.
