Directed by Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tony Kushner, “West Side Story” tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City.
I wish they had picked literally anyone else as a leading man.
That being said, when I was a kid, watching WSS every weekend on VHS, I had trouble understanding the racial element since Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer looked exactly the same to me (dark hair, light skin, caucasian). So...this is an improvement on that.
seriously, i must have missed the announcement for this movie because when i watched the trailer and saw him i was like "NOOOOOO NOT FUCKING ANSEL ELGORT!!! AS TONY???"
I watched the original for the first time somewhat recently and honestly there's a LOT to improve on lol, so I'm not necessarily mad that this exists. the original leading guy was THE blueprint for "is he hot or just tall" so on pure aesthetics Ansel Elgort really fits that bill I guess
