I watched it earlier today… it was too musically for me. I was hoping for more original music. I really like Million To One. I couldn’t see it ending up on the big screen like it was originally. It’s very made for tv. A lot of missed opportunity for include diversity. On that note nothing will ever top the Brandy/Whitney version.
Trying to pass of the magical negro trope as progressive is one of the many things that bothers me about this movie and to find out that he really isn’t even in the movie for long just strengthens my argument. He was black, sassy, said yass queen and that’s all he had to offer. How fucked.
At least in the context of the Brandy/Whitney version they were both black and every little girl projecting as Cinderella at that time would have lost their shit if Whitney Houston showed up to change their whole life. Like get that check I guess Billy from this whole unneeded adaptation, werque
Also, this Cinderella had a black queen and a black stepsister. Having multiple black female characters with different personalities is how you avoid racist tropes. This flop Cinderella would never.
